RICHMOND, Ky. –
Eastern Kentucky's volleyball team is 4-0 for the first time since 1995, and for just the fourth time since 1982, after a 3-1 victory at home over Marshall on Monday.

EKU won by scores of 30-28, 22-25, 26-24 and 25-23.

Junior Alexis Plagens led the Colonels with 22 kills, two short of matching her career-high.  Ashley Edmond added 17 kills and 15 digs.  Sophomore setter Mallori Moffat contributed 56 assists and 14 digs.

Eastern trailed 24-23, 25-24 and 27-26 in the first set but never gave up.  A kill by Edmond brought set-point at 29-28.  Moffat's kill ended the set and gave the home squad a 1-0 lead.

After a kill by Plagens to start the second set, Marshall scored the next three points and led the rest of the way.  Sacha Byousmcconnell's kill ended the set, 25-22, and tied the match.

The score was tied 12 times in the third set.  An EKU attack error gave Marshall set-point at 24-22, but the Colonels rolled off four straight points.  Kills by Plagens and Edmond tied the score.  An attack error by the Thundering Herd gave Eastern set-point.  Plagens ended it with a kill moments later and staked her squad to a 2-1 lead.

Eastern scored the first five points of the fourth set but the Thundering Herd did not go away quietly.  An ace by Moffat gave the Colonels a seven-point lead, 12-5.  Back-to-back kills by Ally Peters kept the margin at six, 21-15.  Marshall answered with an 8-3 run to close within a single point.  Byousmcconnell's kill made it 24-23.  After an EKU timeout, Edmond ended the match with a kill.

Ally Kiekover had 23 kills for Marshall.  Ashley Arnold had six blocks for the visitors, who held a 12-7 advantage in that category.

Eastern will return to action on Friday against Utah Valley at the Arizona Invitational.  The match is scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m. ET.
