RICHMOND, Ky. – The Eastern Kentucky University women's soccer team is set to play its third consecutive split weekend, hosting Xavier on Friday at 5:00 p.m. before traveling to Bloomington to face Indiana on Sunday at 2:00 p.m.
The Colonels lost to Ohio, 5-1, last Sunday at home, as the Bobcats scored four unanswered goals in the second half to pull away. Senior Kristan Paynter recorded EKU's lone goal off an assist from fellow senior Katie Collar.
EKU (0-4-0) has played a grueling non-conference schedule to open the 2013 season. The four teams that Eastern has played this season have a combined record of 8-5-1, and the road does not get easier going forward. Xavier enters the weekend perfect at 3-0-0 while Indiana is currently 3-0-1. A week from Friday, the Colonels will tangle with the ninth-ranked team in the country, West Virginia.
Xavier knocked off host Purdue and North Dakota in a season-opening tournament before returning home to edge Evansville, 1-0, on Wednesday. Tori Doss leads the Musketeer attack with three goals and pair of assists. Ashton Green, meanwhile, has notched two game-winners for surging Xavier.
EKU is 1-3-0 all-time versus Xavier, losing to the Musketeers last year in Cincinnati, 2-0. The Colonels' lone win in the series came in 2010 at EKU Soccer Field.
Indiana has wins over Ohio, Georgia Southern and Milwaukee. The Hoosiers played Loyola (Chicago) to a scoreless draw on Sunday. Lisa Nouanesengsy has recorded a pair of game-winners for IU, while the formidable Hoosier backline has allowed only one goal through four games this season.
Sunday's game will be the first-ever meeting between EKU and Indiana.
