Colonels End OVC Road Trip Saturday In Regionally Televised Game At SIU Edwardsville

EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. –
Eastern Kentucky University's men's basketball team will try to improve to 2-0 in the Ohio Valley Conference when the Colonels end their two-game road trip at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville on Saturday. The game will air live on Fox Sports Midwest Plus.

Eastern Kentucky (10-4, 1-0 OVC) began the road trip with a convincing 100-81 victory at Eastern Illinois on Thursday. Senior guard Glenn Cosey broke the school record, and tied the OVC mark, with 10 three-pointers. He finished with 34 points, going 11-of-14 from the field, including 10-for-12 from behind the arc. The Flint, Mich., native also had six assists and no turnovers. Corey Walden added 17 points and Marcus Lewis contributed 14 points.

Those three, along with Orlando Williams, are averaging 10.9 points or more per game. Cosey leads the team and is third in the conference with 19.8 per contest. He's now shooting 44.7 percent from three-point range. Lewis contributes 12.5 points and Walden averages 11.9 per game. Eric Stutz is grabbing a team-best 4.6 rebounds per contest.

EKU is shooting the ball very well. In their last three games combined, the Colonels have hit 40 three pointers. Eastern is 40-for-81 (49.4 percent) from behind the arc in those games. Eastern Kentucky has shot 56 percent or better from the field in each of its last three games as well. EKU shot 56 percent against North Carolina A&T, 58.7 percent at IPFW and 59.6 percent at Eastern Illinois.

SIU Edwardsville (3-11, 0-1 OVC) has allowed its opponents to shoot 51.5 percent from the field this season. The Colonels have scored 80 or more in each of the last three games. SIUE has allowed 80 or more points seven times in 14 games this season.

The Cougars opened up conference play with a 70-63 loss at home to Morehead State. Donivine Stewart scored a team-best 17 points. SIUE shot just 32 percent from the field, including 6-for-20 (30 percent) from behind the arc. Stewart, a 6-foot sophomore guard, leads the team with an average of 11 points per game.

Eastern Kentucky leads the all-time series 3-2. The Colonels are 1-1 in games played in Edwardsville. Eastern won the last meeting between the two teams, 78-72, in Richmond on Jan. 5, 2013.
