CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo.
– Breana Beine scored the game-winner in the 85th minute to lift host Southeast Missouri over the Eastern Kentucky University soccer team, 1-0, on Friday night at Houck Stadium.

EKU (3-12-1, 1-5-1 OVC) battled third-place SEMO (7-5-0, 4-2-0) for the first 84 minutes, until Beine received a pass from Natasha Minor, beat an EKU defender and scored the decisive goal of the night.

"We played well enough to win tonight," head coach Melissa Barnes said. "Our entire team defended well and fought extremely hard against a good SEMO team. I am very proud of the way our team played tonight."

Sophomores Cassie Smith and Mikayla Brillon led EKU with two shots apiece in the game. Juniors Katie Bright and Amani Thomas and freshman Allison Werner all put shots on frame.

Brillon, Bright, Smith, junior Merrissa Vault and senior Paige Larkin all went the distance in the narrow defeat.

Freshman goalkeeper Anna Hall played all 90 minutes in goal and made one save.

EKU returns home to host SIUE on Sunday at 1:00 p.m.
