RICHMOND, Ky.
– The Eastern Kentucky University women's basketball team will face Central Arkansas on Friday at 5:00 p.m. in the consolation bracket of the Preseason WNIT.

The Colonels will then face either Mercer or Jackson State on Saturday in their third and final game of the Preseason WNIT.

Both games this weekend will be played at Hawkins Arena on Mercer's campus in Macon, Georgia.

EKU (0-1) fell to No. 17 West Virginia (2-0), 67-42, in the first round of the tournament last Saturday evening in Morgantown. The Colonels led for a majority of the first half, before a late-half run by WVU gave the Mountaineers a lead they would not relinquish.

Junior Shameekia Murray and sophomores Mariah Massengill and Michaela Hunter scored eight points each to pace the Colonel offense.

Despite missing two of their top rebounders in junior Miranda Maples and sophomore Cierra Drake, EKU was only out-rebounded by a much-taller WVU team, 44-38. The Colonels out-rebounded the Mountaineers, 24-23, in the first half.

Central Arkansas (0-1) lost to Western Kentucky, 93-57, last Friday in the first round. Maggie Proffitt scored a team-high 22 points for the Sugar Bears in the defeat.

EKU is 0-2 all-time versus UCA. The Sugar Bears defeated the Colonels in Richmond in 2009 and in Conway, Arkansas in 2010.

Mercer (0-1) fell to Mississippi State, 97-66, in the first round. Precious Bridges poured in 22 points in the loss.

EKU is 2-1 all-time against Mercer. The two teams last met in 1994.

Jackson State (0-2) lost to Arkansas State, 92-60, in the first round and then lost to LSU, 52-44, in overtime on Monday. Derica Wiggins leads the Lady Tigers at 12.5 points-per-game this season.

EKU is 1-1 all-time versus Jackson State. The Colonels defeated the Lady Tigers, 64-56, in Richmond in 2012.
