The Colonels are 6-5 overall. Coppin State is 1-12 this season and 0-2 against Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference teams. The Eagles haven't beaten a Division I team this season. Their lone win was a 103-50 decision over Goldey-Beacom.
After beating No. 18 Miami by 28 on the road, Eastern Kentucky lost at Florida Atlantic on Monday. In a game that saw 13 lead changes and 12 ties, EKU came up short in a 69-66 loss.
Corey Walden led Eastern with 15 points to go along with four steals and three rebounds.
Eric Stutz added 13 points, six assists and five rebounds.
The Colonels have out-scored their last two opponents by 39 points off turnovers. Eastern is second in the nation in turnover margin (+10.9) and third with an average of 11.5 steals per game.
Coppin State is 339th among 355 teams in field goal percentage (36.6 percent) and 252nd in three-point field goal percentage (31.8 percent), but the Eagles are 10th in the nation with 9.62 three-pointers per game. EKU is seventh with 9.64 per game.
CSU has allowed its opponents to shoot 51 percent from the field this season. The Colonels have shot 48 percent or better in three of their previous four games.
Arnold Fripp, a 6-foot-7 senior forward, leads Coppin State in scoring (12.7 ppg) and rebounding (5.4 rpg). He's made 43 percent of his shots from the field.
As a team, CSU averages 68.5 points and allows 88.7 per game. The Eagles are being out-rebounded by 12 boards per game, but commit 1.4 fewer turnovers per game than their foes.
CSU lost at Evansville, 85-80, on Sunday. The Eagles were down 15 at halftime and trailed by as many as 19 early in the second half. Coppin State made 12 three-pointers and committed seven fewer turnovers, but allowed Evansville to shoot 54 percent from the field.
Sterling Smith, a 6-foot-4 junior guard, led the team with 22 points on 9-of-16 shooting. Fripp posted a double-double, finishing with 13 points and 11 rebounds.
