Softball Takes First Place at Jock N' Roll Competition

The EKU softball team claimed the 2014 Jock N' Roll title.

RICHMOND, Ky. – Last Wednesday, Feb. 5, the Eastern Kentucky University Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) sponsored an all-athlete talent show, Jock N' Roll. The event helped raise money to send four EKU military veterans to the OVC basketball tournament in March as part of the OVC Hoops For Heroes project.

There were eight acts in the performance – soccer, men's cross country, volleyball, baseball, women's golf, tennis, football and softball.

This year, the audience was able to participate in voting for the 'Audience Choice Award'. The football team won that particular award for its "Old School vs. New School" dance-off skit.

The three distinguished judges – EKU President Michael Benson, head strength and conditioning coach Jon-Michael Davis and EKU super fan Donna Sowder – had the final say in the overall winner. The top-three judges' votes were tennis, football and softball. The Colonel softball team won the judges' overall vote with a well-choreographed line dance!

This event raised more than $800! The four EKU Veterans – Robert Barger (United States Air Force), Joshua Burch (United States Marine Corps), John Frost (United States Army) and Joe McQuerry (United States Marine Corps) – are all students at EKU. They will receive a two-night stay in Nashville on March 7-8 and tickets to the OVC men's and women's semifinal and championship basketball games.
