RICHMOND, Ky.
– The Eastern Kentucky University soccer team lost to visiting East Tennessee State, 3-1, in an exhibition game on Tuesday afternoon at EKU Soccer Field.

It was the Colonels' lone tune-up before the season opener at Western Carolina on Friday, August 22 at 7:00 p.m.

ETSU stormed out to a 2-0 lead, thanks to goals by Molly Collinson and Simona Koren. However, the Colonels answered with just a minute to play in the first half, as freshman Logan Harvey found junior Amani Thomas, who buried a goal into the upper right corner of the net to make it 2-1 at the break.

EKU, though, could not capitalize on the late first-half momentum, as Koren scored again for ETSU in the 58th minute to give the Buccaneers some much-needed breathing room.

EKU was outshot in the game, 10-8. However, the Colonels did attempt four more corner kicks than their opponents.

In all, 20 EKU players were able to see the field during the scrimmage.

Defenders Paige Larkin – a first team All-OVC selection in 2013 – and Mikalya Brillon were the only Colonels to go the distance in the match.

Freshman Anna Hall started in goal for the Colonels and surrendered two goals while making two saves.

EKU will play its regular season home opener versus Alabama A&M on Friday, August 29 at 5:00 p.m.
