EVANSVILLE, Ind. – Despite a valiant effort from its defense, the Eastern Kentucky University soccer team fell at Evansville, 1-0, on Sunday afternoon at McCutchan Stadium.
With the loss, Eastern drops to 2-1-0 on the young season. Evansville – which already has a 3-0 win over Ohio Valley Conference foe Austin Peay this season – improves to 3-1-0.
Freshman goalkeeper
Anna Hall made a career-high eight saves and the EKU backline withstood 17 shots before UE's Bronwyn Boswell finally headed in a cross in the 66
th minute to give the Purple Aces a lead they would never relinquish.

Melissa Barnes said. "They played well today and put us under a lot of pressure. Defensively, I am proud of our team as we absorbed a lot of pressure and defended hard. We will watch video and train hard this week to improve in preparation for our next game."

Emily D'Italia anchored the EKU defense on the day, playing all 90 minutes of the gritty affair. Sophomore defender Mikalya Brillon and freshman midfielder
Logan Harvey also went the distance.
Harvey attempted EKU's only shot on the goal during the game.
The EKU defense went 246 minutes of play before finally surrendering a goal this season.
The Colonels return to action at Cincinnati on Friday, September 5, at 7:00 p.m.
