EKU Soccer Looks to Regroup at Home this Weekend

Live Stats I Live Video

RICHMOND, Ky.
– Following three consecutive road losses, the Eastern Kentucky University soccer team will look to regroup by hosting UNC Asheville and Marshall at the friendly confines of EKU Soccer Field this weekend.

The Colonels will face UNCA on Friday at 5:00 p.m. and Marshall on Sunday at 1:00 p.m.

Eastern (2-0-0) has not played a game this season in which both teams have scored. The Colonels opened the year with two straight shutouts over Western Carolina (1-0) and Alabama A&M (7-0); however, they have been shutout in three straight defeats to Evansville, Cincinnati and Ohio.

EKU was dominant in its only home game of the year so far, routing Alabama A&M, 7-0, back on August 29. Junior Dani Cant and sophomore Cassie Smith both scored a pair of goals in the win.

Cant, Smith and freshman Emmi Carroll lead the Colonels with two goals each this fall.

Carroll, senior Kaylynn Brown, sophomore Mikayla Brillon and freshman Jordan Foster have all notched assists this season.

Freshman goalkeeper Anna Hall, meanwhile, ranks fourth in the Ohio Valley Conference with 24 saves on the year.

UNCA enters the weekend with a record of 3-2-0 following a 1-0 loss to Alabama State last weekend. Kaitlyn Eckert leads the Bulldogs with two goals and three assists on the year.

EKU leads the all-time series with UNCA, 2-1; however, the Bulldogs defeated the Colonels in last year's season opener in Asheville, 2-1.

Marshall is currently 2-2-1 on the year following a win over Appalachian State last Sunday. The Thundering Herd face Cincinnati on Friday before travelling to Richmond on Sunday.

Kristine Culicerto paces the Marshall offense with three goals on the year.

EKU is 0-2 all-time versus Marshall.

Following this weekend's slate, EKU will wrap up the non-conference schedule with games at Cleveland State and Kent State next weekend.
