RICHMOND, Ky. – The Eastern Kentucky University soccer team will play its final two non-conference games of the regular season this weekend as the Colonels travel north to face Cleveland State on Friday and Kent State on Sunday.
Friday's game in Cleveland will be at 7:00 p.m., while Sunday's game in Kent will be at 1:00 p.m.
Following this weekend's slate, EKU will open Ohio Valley Conference play with road games at Austin Peay (September 26) and Belmont (September 28).
Eastern (2-5-0) dropped a pair of close matches at home to UNC Asheville and Marshall last weekend. On Friday versus UNCA, the Colonels nearly rallied from two down at halftime but eventually fell, 2-1. EKU led Marshall for the first 60 minutes of Sunday's game until the Thundering Herd scored three goals late to pull away.
Sophomore
Cassie Smith scored both of EKU's goals last weekend and now leads the Colonels with four scores on the season. The native of Ashburn, Va. already has nine goals in her young career and is on pace to break the EKU career record of 17.
Cleveland State is 4-4-1 on the year following a scoreless draw with Niagara on Sunday. The Viking offense is paced by Amanda Sivic's four goals.
EKU is 1-1 all-time versus CSU. The Colonels defeated the Vikings, 2-0, in their last meeting in 2009.
Kent State is 4-2-0 on the year following a narrow 3-2 loss to Louisville last Sunday. The Golden Flashes' defense has surrendered only three goals in six games this fall.
EKU is 0-2 all-time versus KSU.
