KENT, Ohio – The Eastern Kentucky University soccer team was doomed by another early deficit on Sunday, as the Colonels surrendered three goals in the first 34 minutes of their 3-0 loss to host Kent State.
For the second consecutive game, EKU (2-7-0) found itself in an early hole, as Kent State's Jenna Hellstrom scored an unassisted goal in the 16
th minute to give the Golden Flashes a quick lead. Hellstrom scored again the in 28
th minute and Calli Rinicella added an insurance goal in the 34
th minute.
The Colonel backline clamped down for the final 56 minutes of the contest, but the damage had been done.
"We dug ourselves in a hole again in the first half," head coach
Melissa Barnes said. "Our team responded well in the second half defensively, but we have to be savvy enough to make those adjustments in the first half."

Logan Harvey were the only Colonels to put a shot on frame on Sunday.

Anna Hall played all 90 minutes of the game and made five saves.
Senior defender
Paige Larkin was the only other Colonel to go the distance.
Twenty players saw the field for EKU in Sunday's loss.
"We had a lot more players contribute this weekend, which will be important as we go into league play," Barnes said. "We are now 0-0-0 in the OVC with nine games of experience under our belts. We look forward to preparing for Austin Peay on Friday."
Eastern will open OVC action at Austin Peay on Friday at 8:00 p.m. The Colonels will close out next weekend at Belmont on Sunday at 3:00 p.m.
