JACKSONVILLE, Ala. – The Eastern Kentucky University women's basketball team was defeated by Jacksonville State, 73-53, on Wednesday afternoon at Pete Mathews Coliseum.
EKU (8-10, 3-5 OVC) had won two consecutive road games before Wednesday's loss.
Junior
Shameekia Murray led the Colonels with 19 points, seven rebounds and four steals. Junior
Shelly Harper added 11 points and eight rebounds, while sophomore
Michaela Hunter had 11 points and six rebounds.
Eastern shot just 2-of-16 from three-point range in the loss.
Destany McLin paced the Gamecocks with 19 points.
The game opened as a back-and-forth affair, with 10 lead changes in the first 15 minutes of action. EKU trailed by only two, 29-27, with 4:18 left in the first half, but JSU closed the half on a 10-3 run and went into the locker room at halftime up 39-30.
McLin gave the Gamecocks an 11-point lead with a layup 30 seconds into the second half and JSU led by double digits the rest of the way.
EKU will close out its current road swing at Morehead State on Saturday at 2:00 p.m. ET.
