2015 Preseason Poll and All-OVC Team
NASHVILLE, Tenn. – EKU junior
Michaela Hunter and senior Shameekia 'Polly' Murray were tabbed Preseason All-Ohio Valley Conference, the OVC announced today.
The duo combined for more than 28 points-per-game last season and represents the only two members to be selected from the same team.
Hunter started all 26 games for the Colonels last season averaging 14.8 points-per-game. She also led the team in rebounding (6.3 rebounds-per-game) and assists (75). In her first season at EKU, Murray, a transfer from South Georgia Technical College, was selected second team All-OVC after racking up 14.0 points-per-game, 4.4 rebounds-per-game and a team-high 44 steals. Murray averaged 16.0 points-per-game against OVC opponents.
Seniors
Jasmine Henshaw and
Miranda Maples also return for the 2015-16 season. The pair provided an integral presence in the paint as both pulled down nearly four rebounds per contest along with more than five points-per-game. Maples posted a team-high 14 blocks on the season.
The Colonels also return
Amadi Brooks,
Alexus Cooper,
Mariah Massengill and
Katie Pippen from last season. The group of experienced veterans, as well as a talented crop of eight newcomers, will add to the Colonels' depth this season.
EKU was picked to finish sixth in the OVC after a 9-17 overall record last season and a 4-12 mark in OVC play. The Colonels were picked ninth in the OVC Media poll released last week.
The poll was voted on by head coaches and sports information directors in the OVC.
