Freihofer Named Preseason All-ASUN, Women’s Basketball Predicted 5th in Coaches’ Poll

EKU Women’s Basketball Top 5 in Both Coaches’ and Media Polls

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Eastern Kentucky University's Liz Freihofer was unanimously selected to the Preseason All-ASUN Team, and the Colonels were picked to finish fifth in the coaches' poll, the league announced Friday morning.

Freihofer, a sophomore from Union, Kentucky, appeared in all 33 games last season with 18 starts, averaging 11.5 points and 5.1 rebounds per game. She also knocked down 70 three-pointers, setting a program record for a freshman and ranking seventh all-time for a single season in EKU history.

Last year, she was a unanimous selection to the ASUN All-Freshman Team and finished as runner-up for ASUN Freshman of the Year.

During the 2024–25 campaign, Freihofer collected 10 ASUN weekly awards, including one Player of the Week, three Newcomer of the Week, and six Freshman of the Week honors. Her 10 total weekly awards set a new program record, while her six Freshman of the Week honors were the second-most by any player in school history.

Freihofer scored in double figures 18 times and recorded two double-doubles. She poured in a season-high 24 points, including six three-pointers, in non-conference play against Northern Illinois. In league play, she posted 20 points and 12 rebounds against North Alabama on Jan. 11, followed by a 22-point, nine-rebound performance at Queens on Feb. 12.

Her second double-double came three days later at Bellarmine, when she totaled 14 points and 11 rebounds. Freihofer also tallied 18 points and eight rebounds in EKU's regular-season finale win over Lipscomb on March 1, helping the Colonels secure the No. 4 seed in the ASUN Tournament.

She scored in double figures in 11 of 18 conference games and ranked second in the ASUN in made three-pointers. Friday's announcement marks the first preseason honor of her collegiate career.

EKU was projected to finish fifth in the coaches' poll, receiving one first-place vote, and fourth in the media poll, receiving two first-place votes. FGCU and EKU were the only programs to earn first-place votes among the 38 total ballots.

The Colonels will travel to Xavier tonight for a preseason exhibition inside the Cintas Center at 7 p.m. ET. Following the exhibition, EKU will head to the ASUN Tipoff in Jacksonville from Oct. 19–20. The event will air on ESPN+ on Oct. 28.
