RICHMOND, Ky. – After spending the last two weekends at home, the Eastern Kentucky University tennis teams hit the road to face league foes Murray State and Austin Peay this weekend.
Both EKU teams enter weekend play undefeated in OVC action. The Colonel men (11-5, 4-0 OVC) have won five consecutive matches and 11 of 13 overall. Sophomore
Sebastian Mueller is 11-3 in singles action this spring and won the deciding match in the 4-3 decision over Tennessee Tech on March 13. Eastern Kentucky has won the doubles point in six straight contests thanks in large part to junior
Alex Álvaro and sophomore
Diego Asis. The duo is 5-0 playing together this month.
On the women's side, Eastern (8-6, 3-0) has shut out two of its three OVC opponents. The Colonels have been particularly strong at the top of the line-up where seniors
Amandine Faouzi (No. 1) and
Kristina Labeja (No. 2) are a combined 21-5 (.808) in singles. Newcomer
Marina Marti (No. 3) has been a solid addition to the roster, going 8-4 in singles thus far.
The EKU women face defending OVC champion Murray State on Friday. The Racers (10-3, 4-1) defeated the Colonels in last year's OVC championship match. Meanwhile, Eastern's men take on the only other undefeated OVC team in Austin Peay on Saturday. Two of the three league wins for the Govs (8-4, 3-0) came by way of scores of 4-3.
