JACKSONVILLE, Ala. – Host Jacksonville State took two games from the Eastern Kentucky University softball team Saturday afternoon. The Gamecocks won by scores of 2-1 and 10-2.
In the opener, freshman
Sarah Jackson gave the Colonels (23-25, 13-9 OVC) a 1-0 lead in the second inning with a leadoff homer to left center field.
It appeared that run would be enough for starting pitcher
Leanna Pittsenbarger. The senior righty kept Jacksonville State (34-15, 17-6) off the scoreboard through the first six innings.
However, the Gamecocks strung together a rally in the bottom of the seventh to pull out the win. JSU hit back-to-back singles following a hit batter to even the score. Cadi Oliver then ended the game with a sacrifice fly ball to center field to score Savannah Sloan.
Jacksonville State hit three home runs in the second game to cruise to a 10-2 win. Ella Denes finished 3-for-5 with a home run and three RBIs. Whitney Gillespie added a home run, double and two runs scored.
Junior
Sarah Fobbs hit her eighth homer of the season in the sixth inning for the Colonels.
The Colonels and Gamecocks wrap up the regular season tomorrow, May 3 with a single game. First pitch is set for 2 p.m. ET.
