JACKSONVILLE, Ala. – The Eastern Kentucky University softball team wrapped up its regular season schedule Sunday afternoon with a 9-0 loss at Jacksonville State.
 
The Gamecocks' Melanie Steer hit a first-inning grand slam to open the floodgates. Jacksonville State (36-15, 18-6 OVC) scored five runs in the first, three more in the second and one in the third inning.
 
Eastern Kentucky (23-26, 13-10) will enter the OVC Tournament as the No. 5 seed and play No. 4 Tennessee Tech (28-25, 15-11) in the opening round of the double-elimination tournament. The Colonels went 2-0 against the Golden Eagles this spring, winning by scores of 4-1 and 8-6 just last weekend.
 
EKU has won two OVC Tournaments under head coach Jane Worthington, with the most recent coming in 2004.
 
This year's OVC Tournament will be played on the campus of SIUE beginning this Wednesday, May 6.
