TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – Eastern Kentucky University sophomore
Charlotte Imer finished 31
st overall to earn All-America honors at the NCAA Division I Cross Country Championships on Saturday at the LaVern Gibson Championship Course.
It is the best finish ever by an EKU woman, and the second best finish ever by an Ohio Valley Conference woman, at the NCAA Championships.
Imer – a native of Melbourne, Australia – overcame cold and windy conditions to finish 31
st out of 230 competitors and cover the 6K course in a personal-best time of 20:19.1.
The top-40 finishers in the race earned All-America honors.
Lydia Kosgei is the only other Colonel woman to ever be named a cross country All-American. She finished 37
th at the 2011 NCAA Championships.
Imer was voted the OVC Female Runner of the Year in October, and she qualified for the NCAA Championships by finishing fifth at the Southeast Regional last week in Virginia.
Sophomore
Erick Rotich also competed in the men's race at the NCAA Championships on Saturday.
The native of Eldoret, Kenya placed 105
th out of 235 runners and covered the 10K course in a time of 30:54.6.
Rotich is the first Colonel man to compete as an individual at the national championships since Soufiane Bouchikhi in 2010. The EKU men had qualified as a team the last five seasons.
