- EKU (6-6) had won four straight games before dropping a 91-86 overtime heartbreaker at Ball State on December 10 and falling, 87-56, at No. 11 Louisville on December 17. The Colonels are currently tied for the second-best record in the OVC East, behind only Tennessee State (8-2)

Nick Mayo paced EKU in the Colonels' tough road matchup at No. 11 Louisville, scoring 15 points, grabbing five rebounds and dishing out four assists.
- Mayo notably knocked down 2-of-3 shots from deep, and the 6-9 forward now ranks fourth in the Ohio Valley Conference in three-point field goal percentage (44.4%). He is one of three Colonels ranked in the top-15 in the OVC in that category, joining senior guard

Asante Gist scored 12 points, dished out three assists and came up with two steals. Forward
Marlon Adams came off the bench to score 10 points on 4-of-5 shooting from the field. Freshman
DeAndre Dishman also came off the bench to match a career-high with a team-best eight rebounds.
- Mayo (fourth / 18.9 points-per-game) and Gist (10
th / 14.2 points-per-game) both rank in the top-10 in the OVC in scoring. Both are the only underclassmen in the top-20.
SCOUTING THE OPPONENT
- Norfolk State (2-9) has lost eight consecutive games.
- The Spartans are led by Jonathan Wade, who is averaging 19.5 points-per-game.
- This is the fifth all-time meeting between EKU and Norfolk State. The Colonels lead the series, 3-1, and have won two straight over the Spartans, including an 81-75 decision in the CollegeInsider.com Postseason Tournament on March 17, 2015 at McBrayer Arena.
- EKU is 21-5 all-time against MEAC schools.
