RICHMOND, Ky. – The EKU women's basketball team will host the University of Akron and Ohio Valley University in a two-game home stand at McBrayer Arena this weekend.
Tip-off is scheduled for 2 p.m. both Saturday and Sunday. Fans receive FREE admission both days with a donation of a new toy.
WHAT TO KNOW
- This will be the 10th meeting between the teams. EKU leads the overall series, 5-4. The Colonels won the first five meetings of the series.
- Saturday's contest marks the first meeting since Feb. 16, 1987 which Akron won.
- EKU fell to the sixth ranked mid-major team in the nation by ESPN, Saint Louis, on Saturday. Eight Colonels scored in the loss, tying the second most this season.
- Sophomore
Abby Wright led the Colonels with 12 points against Saint Louis.
- Seniors
Shavontae Naylor (14.5 ppg) and
Jalen O'Bannon (11.7 ppg) both rank in the OVC's top-20 in scoring.
- The Colonels average 9.1 steals-per-game which second is the conference. EKU's 4.4 blocks-per-game is third best in the OVC.
SCOUTING THE OPPONENT
- Akron (4-2) has won its last two and three of its last four. The Zips handed Youngstown State a 76-74 loss in overtime on Tuesday.
- Senior guard Hannah Plybon leads the Zips' offense with 19 points-per-game. Plybon logged 18 points and 11 rebounds in Akron's win at Youngstown State on Tuesday.
- Ohio Valley's Jalyn Gilbert (13.0 ppg), Cydney Franklin (12.7), and Shicole Watts (12.0) average in double figures for the Fighting Scots.
UP NEXT
EKU travels to Dayton, Ohio for the Wright State Invitational. The Colonels will take on host Wright State on Monday and Miami (Ohio) and Indiana University Purdue University Fort Wayne the next two days.
