Colonels Tie Program Record With Fifth Straight Win

Box Score (PDF)

RICHMOND, Ky.
– The Eastern Kentucky University soccer team shut out visiting Chattanooga, 1-0, and tied the program record with its fifth consecutive win on Friday afternoon at EKU Soccer Field.

It is EKU's fourth shutout in its last five games. The Colonels have not surrendered a goal at EKU Soccer Field since the home opener versus Xavier on August 21.

Eastern (5-2-0) took control early when junior Jordan Foster rebounded her own shot on goal in the sixth minute and made the second one count, putting the Colonels up, 1-0. The Fairborn, Ohio native now leads the team with three scores on the season.

The EKU defense locked down after that, only giving up four shots on frame the entire match.

Junior goalkeeper Anna Hall continued to resemble a brick wall in net, making several key saves, including one on a breakaway by Chattanooga's Cameron Williams in the first half. Hall now ranks second all-time at EKU with nine career shutouts.

"Today was another challenging game that we had to battle until the end," head coach Nick Flohre said. "Our backline, and especially our goalkeeper Anna Hall, were outstanding. Any shutout will make a coaching staff happy, but our players know we can play much better than we did today. We're still leaning what we're capable of. That's a learning process that is ongoing."

Eastern won the shots battle, 13-10. Sophomore Tara Claus posted three shots, while Foster put two shots on frame.

Sophomores Haley Kemper and Kacy Eckley continued to anchor EKU's stellar backline, as the center backs played all 90 minutes in the shutout.

"The focus now is on recovering and getting healthy," Flohre added. "We're all happy with how our non-conference season has gone but we're even more excited to get into conference play."

The Colonels open Ohio Valley Conference play when they travel to Nashville to face Belmont on Friday, September 23. First touch is set for 7:30 p.m.
