NASHVILLE, Tenn.
– The Eastern Kentucky University soccer team opened Ohio Valley Conference play with a 1-0 win at Belmont on Friday night at E.S. Rose Park. It is the white-hot Colonels' program-record sixth consecutive victory.

The match remained scoreless until the 77th minute, when junior Logan Harvey fired a corner kick into the box. Sophomore Bailly Bounds headed the ball to junior Jordan Foster, who redirected it past Belmont goalkeeper Stephanie Bukovec into the back of the net.

It was Foster's second straight game-winning goal for EKU (6-2-0, 1-0-0 OVC). The native of Fairborn, Ohio now has a team-high four scores on the season.

Harvey and Bounds both notched assists on the decisive set piece. It was Harvey's second assist of the year and Bounds' first. Harvey is now tied for second all-time in career assists at EKU.

Belmont outshot EKU, 8-2, in the first half; however, the Colonel offense came to life in the second half, tallying nine shots. The Colonels also put more shots on frame, 7-4. Foster and senior Cassie Smith led the Colonels with two shots on goal each.

"We're really proud of the team," first-year head coach Nick Flohre said. "Every game in the OVC is a challenge and we were able to battle long enough to get a result. Belmont took it to us in the first half, but the players responded well in the second half and stuck with the adjustments we made at halftime. They should be proud of themselves."

Junior goalkeeper Anna Hall picked up her fifth shutout in Eastern's last six games. The reigning OVC Goalkeeper of the Week made four saves in the match and has not surrendered a goal in over 280 minutes of action.

Harvey and sophomore center backs Kacy Eckley and Haley Kemper played all 90 minutes for the Colonels in the clean sheet.

It is Eastern's first-ever win over Belmont. The Colonels were 0-2-2 in their previous four matches against the Bruins dating back to 2012.

"We now have to focus on recovery and getting ready for a tough Jacksonville State team on Sunday," Flohre added.

The Colonels return to Richmond to host Jacksonville State on Sunday. First touch is set for 1:00 p.m.
