Colonels Travel to Cookeville for Doubleheader with TTU

COOKEVILLE, Tenn.  – The Eastern Kentucky University men's and women's basketball teams will travel to Tennessee Tech for an OVC East doubleheader on Saturday night at the Hooper Eblen Center.

The women's game is set to tip at 6:30 p.m. ET, followed by the men's game at 8:30 p.m. ET.

WHAT TO KNOW

 
- The Colonels suffered a 54-49 loss to Jacksonville State Wednesday at McBrayer Arena. The teams combined for 11 first quarter points—marking season lows for both teams.
 
- Senior guard Mariah Massengill scored nine of her 16 points—which tied a career high—in the fourth quarter as the Colonels rallied late.

- Collectively, the Colonels rank in the OVC's top-five in steals (160), steals-per-game (8.0), and three point field goal defense (30.6). EKU held the Gamecocks to a mere 2-for-11 (18 percent) from long range in Wednesday's meeting.
 
- The Golden Eagles lead the all-time series, 65-25, over the Colonels. Tennessee Tech is 31-7 against the Eastern at home in the series. EKU won the last meeting in Cookeville, 71-67, in overtime.

SCOUTING THE OPPONENT

- TTU (7-14, 4-4 OVC) has lost its last two OVC contests on the road. The Golden Eagles have won their last three conference games in Cookeville.

- Junior Yaktavia Hickson's 17.1 points-per-game is third best in the league. Senior Treyvonna Brooks' 49.7 percent average from the floor ranks fifth in the conference.

- EKU (9-14, 2-6 OVC) snapped a five-game losing streak by beating Jacksonville State, 57-52, on the road on Thursday night. It was the Colonels' first win under second-year head coach Dan McHale in which they scored less than 60 points.
 
- Sophomore Nick Mayo had 19 points, eight rebounds, three assists and a career-high seven blocks vs. Jacksonville State. His seven blocks were the most by a Colonel since Eric Stutz had seven vs. Southeast Missouri on Feb. 2, 2013.
 
- As a team, EKU blocked 13 shots in the win over Jacksonville State. That is the most blocks by a Colonel team  in a single game in over 14 years. Following Thursday's performance, Eastern now ranks fourth in the OVC in blocks-per-game (3.6)
 
- EKU stifled Jacksonville State to 30 percent shooting (18-of-60) on its home floor on Thursday night. That was the Gamecocks' second worst shooting performance of the season.
 
 
SCOUTING THE OPPONENT
 
- Tennessee Tech (9-14, 5-3 OVC) has won two of its last three games, including a 76-73 home win over Morehead State on Thursday night in Cookeville.
 
- Aleksa Jugovic paces the Golden Eagles at 16.4 points-per-game.
 
- This is the 133rd all-time meeting between EKU and Tennessee Tech. EKU leads the series, 72-60; however, the Colonels have not won in Cookeville since Feb. 28, 2013.
