Colonels Host Kentucky State in Home Opener on Thursday Night

RICHMOND, Ky. – The Eastern Kentucky University men's basketball team will host Kentucky State in its home opener on Thursday night at McBrayer Arena. Tip is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.

- EKU (1-1) opened the season with a come-from-behind 73-72 win at Rice last Friday night in Houston. The Colonels then fell at Ole Miss, 85-75, on Monday evening in Oxford, Alabama.

- Junior Nick Mayo was voted the OVC Player of the Week on Monday. The forward from Oakland, Maine is second in the conference in scoring (22.0 points-per-game) and first in rebounding (11.0 rebounds-per-game) through two games this season.

- Freshman Dedric Boyd was tabbed the OVC Freshman of the Week on Monday. The 6-4 guard from Brownsville, Tennesssee is averaging 19.5 points-per-game through his first two games as a collegiate player.

- Junior Jackson Davis – a transfer from Butler – came off the bench to record his first double-figures game as a Colonel on Monday at Ole Miss. Davis scored 11 points and had three rebounds, a steal and a team-best two blocks.

- Freshman JacQuess Hobbs made his first career start at point guard on Monday at Ole Miss. The Louisville native responded admirably, scoring seven points and dishing out a team-best five assists.

- The Colonels outshot Ole Miss in every category on Monday night in Oxford, going 26-of-51 from the floor (51 percent), 6-of-12 from behind the arc (50 percent) and 17-of-22 from the free throw line (77.3 percent).

- EKU currently ranks 19th in the country in free throw percentage (82.9%).

- The Colonels have already logged more than 2,500 miles of travel through the first two games of the season. 

SCOUTING THE OPPONENT
 
- Kentucky State (0-1) lost at Salem International, 92-77, on Saturday in Salem, West Virginia.

- Dorian Jordan led the Thorobreds in the loss with 22 points and six assists.

- Jordan averaged 19.2 points-per-game for KSU last season.

- This is only the third all-time meeting between the two Kentucky schools, and the first meeting since 1984. EKU leads the all-time series, 2-1. The Colonels won the last matchup, 82-73, on December 1, 1984 in Richmond.
