RICHMOND, Ky. – Bria Bass and
Madison Wood each turned in double-digit outings to lead the Eastern Kentucky women's basketball team to a 67-54 win over Davis & Elkins College Sunday afternoon in McBrayer Arena.

The Colonels came out of the locker room down 29-28, opening the third frame on a jumper from
Shay Solomon to score the first points of the quarter. The shot sparked a 14-4 EKU run that ended on back-to-back triples from Bass, 42-33. The Senators put two in from the line to try and cut into the lead, 42-35. Eastern Kentucky then scored 10 unanswered points that again began with Solomon, but ended on a short jumper from Wood, to create the largest lead in the game, 52-35. Davis & Elkins came within seven, 60-53, but were unable to overcome the Colonel advantage. J'Lyn Martin found

The Colonels outscored the Senators 39-25 in the second half to notch the victory and grabbed 45 boards versus 39 for Davis & Elkins.

The Senators opened the contest with back-to-back triples, 6-4. Bass then drained a long ball followed by an
Abby Wright layup to extend the EKU lead, 11-8. Aliyah Dukes responded with a three-pointer of her own to tie the score and send Davis & Elkins on an 8-2 run to retake control of the game, 16-13 with 1:47 remaining in the first quarter.

Martin created an 8-2 run of her own to close the first quarter and open the second to swing the game back in favor of Eastern 23-18. A Sydney Turner triple put the Senators ahead going into the locker room, 29-28.

Bass netted 19 points to lead all players and open her freshman campaign while Wood contributed 12. Solomon and Martin paved the way for EKU in rebounds with six apiece.

Thirteen of the 14 Colonels that played in the game added at least one rebound.

Eastern Kentucky is set to open its season on Friday, Nov. 10 at Bowling Green. Tip is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
