BRENTWOOD, Tenn. – Eastern Kentucky University guard
Asante Gist has been voted the Ohio Valley Conference Freshman of the Week for men's basketball, the league office announced on Monday.

It is the seventh time this season Gist has been named OVC Freshman of the Week. No other freshman has earned the award more than five times.

Gist averaged 19.0 points, 5.5 assists, 3.0 rebounds and 2.5 steals-per-game last week to help lead EKU to a pair of home wins over Jacksonville State and Tennessee Tech.

The native of East Orange, New Jersey poured in 22 points, dished out five assists and committed only one turnover in the Colonels' 75-71 win over TTU on Saturday at McBrayer Arena. He calmly went 6-of-6 from the free throw line in the final minute to seal the victory.

On Thursday against JSU, Gist posted 16 points, a career-high six assists and only one turnover in a 68-65 win.

He finished the week with an 11-2 assist-to-turnover ratio (5.5).

Gist closes out the regular season ranked 10
th in the OVC in scoring (15.9 points-per-game) and ninth in assists (3.8 assists-per-game). He leads all freshmen in the league in both catergories.
