LORMAN, Miss. – Eastern swept Alcorn State today in a road doubleheader. EKU won the first game 8-0 in six innings and won the second game 12-4.

In game one, the Colonels manufactured three runs in the top of the first inning. After a triple by
Krislyn Campos to lead off the game,
Mia Sanchez brought her home with a single to left field. With Sanchez on second after a stolen base,
Johnkyria Alston singled to right to make it 2-0. Alston advanced to third on an error on the play and then scored on a ground ball.

Eastern closed out the game with five runs combined in the fifth and sixth innings.Â
Amber Murray had a two-out, two-run single in the top of the fifth. Alston drove in two more runs with a double in the sixth.

Alex Sallberg (2-6) pitched six shutout innings. She allowed just two hits, walked one batter and struck out nine. Alston finished 2-for-4 with a run and three RBIs. Sanchez and
Rachel Minogue both scored two runs.

The Colonels fell behind 2-1 after the first inning of game two, but came back quickly. Murray had a two-run triple in the top of the second to put her team in front 3-2. Eastern pulled away with four runs in the fourth inning.Â
Sarah Jackson drove in a run with a single through the left side. Three batters later Sanchez platted two runners with a single up the middle. Minogue capped it with an RBI single to right for a 7-2 lead.

Four Colonels finished with three hits each. Campos went 3-for-5 with three runs scored. Sanchez was 3-for-3 with two runs and two RBIs. Minogue had three hits in four at bats and drove in three. Murray had a 3-for-4 game with two runs and three RBIs.

Sallberg (3-6) pitched the first four innings of game two, allowing two unearned runs on four hits and striking out four.

Eastern Kentucky will participate in the Tiger Classic hosted by Memphis on Friday and Saturday. The Colonels will play Saint Louis at 2:30 p.m. and Memphis at 7 p.m. on Saturday.
