MUSCLE SHOALS, Ala. –
Eastern Kentucky's quest for its 13th Ohio Valley Conference men's golf championship begins Monday.  The 2017 edition of the OVC Championship will be contested over three days at The Shoals on the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail in Muscle Shoals, Alabama.

EKU has placed among the top four at the conference championship 36 times in the last 39 years.  The Colonels last won the title in 2015.  Eastern entered the final round tied for second a year ago, but finished fourth overall in one of the closest finishes in championship history.  The top six teams were separated by just five shots.

Eastern Kentucky's 12 championships are the most by any current OVC member.  No other current league member has more than eight titles.

The Fighting Joe Course at The Shoals will host the championship for the fourth consecutive year and the fifth time overall.  The course will have a par of 72 and play to 7,258 yards.  The Colonels will begin teeing off at 10:40 a.m. ET.

The Colonels won five tournaments this season and reached as high as 40th in the nation in the Golfstat Poll and No. 28 in the Bushnell Golfweek Coaches Poll.

The five participating Colonels are senior Travis Rose, juniors Jared Brown, Noah Combs and Will Sallee, and sophomore Erik Lindwall.  The trio of Brown, Combs and Sallee were starters as freshmen on the 2015 OVC Championship team.

Combs, Lindwall and Sallee rank second, third and fourth in the OVC in stroke average.  Combs leads the team at 72.09.  He shot 13 rounds at par or below during the season.  Combs finished in the top-10 five times and captured the individual title at the EKU Intercollegiate.

Lindwall has a 72.16 stroke average while shooting par or better in 15 of his 32 rounds of golf.  He ended the fall as the 22nd ranked European playing collegiate golf in the United States, according to the Arnold Palmer Cup Rankings.  Lindwall had six top-10 finishes during the regular season and won two events – the Joe Feaganes Marshall Invitational and the Patriot Intercollegiate.

Sallee posted a 72.47 stroke average, led the team in top-10 finishes with seven and tied for first at the Homewood/Hilton Garden & FGCU Classic.  He shot par or better in 14 rounds.  Sallee placed second at the 2016 OVC Championship.

Rose enters the championship with a 73.63 stroke average and Brown carries a 74.25 stroke average.

Lindwall shot the lowest round in program history when he fired a 7-under 63 at the Marshall Invitational.  He also shot two rounds of 66 this season.  Combs and Brown also fired one round of 66 each.

The Shoals is home to two 18-hole championship courses and lies between the Wheeler and Wilson dams on the Tennessee River.  Wheeler Dam is named in honor of General Joseph "Fighting Joe" Wheeler - the only Confederate General to attain the same rank later in the United States Army.

The 11 participating teams include Austin Peay, Belmont, Eastern Illinois, Eastern Kentucky, Jacksonville State, Morehead State, Murray State, Southern Illinois Edwardsville, Tennessee State, Tennessee Tech and Tennessee-Martin.
