RICHMOND, Ky.
– On Senior Day at EKU Soccer Field, senior forward Jordan Foster scored the equalizing goal in the 82nd minute of regulation to help the Eastern Kentucky University soccer team battle back and tie Southeast Missouri, 1-1.

Foster took a beautiful 70-yard feed from freshman defender Jess Philpot, battled her way in front of two Redhawk defenders, and found the bottom left side of the goal from 10 yards out. It tied Foster for the team lead with four goals on the season.

In the first overtime period, Philpot and senior goalkeeper Anna Hall made two game-saving defensive plays.  The first came in the 96th minute, Philpot headed away a shot that would have ended the game. Then, in the 99th minute, off a SEMO corner kick, Hall extended her right arm to block a header by Esmie Gonzales just feet from the goal that would have given the Redhawks the win. Three of Hall's six saves came in the extra periods.

"Today was another hard-played conference game," head coach Nick Flohre said. "SEMO is a good team and has given everyone they've played a good game. Today was no different."

Foster and junior midfielder Bailly Bounds led EKU (5-3-3, 2-0-2 OVC) with three shots a piece on the day. All three of Foster's shots were on goal, while two of Bounds shots were on target. In all, the Colonels fired off 12 shots, seven of them on goal.

Gonzales led Southeast Missouri (4-5-2, 1-1-2 OVC) with eight shot attempts, four of them being on target.

Katie Lever scored SEMO's lone goal in the 15th minute off an assist from Lexi Grote.

Senior Allison Werner, junior Kacy Eckley and freshman Katie Shaffer played all 110 minutes of the grueling double-overtime game on a hot day in Richmond.

"We're very happy with the effort our team gave and how hard we fought to get the tying goal back," Flohre added. "That kind of effort will help us turn these draws into wins."

The Colonels will be back in action on Friday, when they travel take on Eastern Illinois. Game time is scheduled for 4:00 p.m.
