NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Eastern Kentucky University soccer team bounced back with a big 3-1 road win at Belmont on Sunday afternoon at Rose Park.
With the victory, EKU improves to 6-6-2 (2-2-2 OVC).

Sarah Owusu got the Colonels off to a good start when she took a pass from senior
Idalys Rea in the ninth minute and fired a left-footed shot past Belmont keeper Lily Herman to make it 1-0. It was Owusu's fifth goal of the year, and Rea's fourth assist.
Following a lengthy weather delay early in the second half, Eastern added to its lead when senior
Monica Rios buried a free kick into the upper left corner of the net, making it 2-0 in the 57
th minute. It was Rios' first goal of the year.
Belmont (5-6-2, 3-3-1 OVC) cut EKU's lead in half when Rachel Vernon scored in the 73
rd minute; however, sophomore
Kylie Thompson sealed the much-needed win less than five minutes later when she beat Herman 1-v-1 on a breakaway, scoring her third goal of the season to make it 3-1.
"We're very proud of the girls' effort today," head coach
Nick Flohre said. "Our recent results have made us question some things about how we're playing. We came into today with some changes, and the players worked very hard to give the best they could when they were on the field. Work rate like today will help keep us moving in the right direction."
Belmont outshot EKU, 18-12, on the day, but it was the Colonels who capitalized on their attempts.

Erin Torrence led Eastern with three shots apiece on the day.

The Colonels return to action next weekend at home, hosting Jacksonville State on Friday (October 12) and Tennessee Tech on Sunday (October 14).
