CHARLESTON, W.Va.–Shay Solomon led the way with a team-high 14 points to go along with five rebounds, but Eastern Kentucky University's women's basketball team fell on the road to West Virginia University in Charleston on Saturday.Â

The Mountaineers opened the game on a 10-0 run before Solomon knocked down a floater in the lane, but the Colonels could never get any closer than that.Â

EKU cut into the Mountaineer lead after back-to-back baskets by
Catie Kaifes and
Bria Bass made it 20-7 in the first quarter.Â

Abby Wright pitched in four points and six rebounds and Kaifes had four points and eight rebounds.

The two teams traded baskets for most of the second quarter with Solomon scoring eight points in the frame.

WVU came out of the locker room scoring the first 12 points of the third quarter to extend its lead to 47-16.

Four players for West Virginia scored in double figures on the night. Naomi Davenport had 16 points and four assists. Kari Niblack posted a game-high 18 points and 12 rebounds. Tynice Martin chipped in 14 points and seven boards. Madisen Smith had 10 points and six assists.

Eastern shot 20 percent from the field. WVU shot 47 percent from the field. West Virginia out-rebounded the Colonels 46-37 on the night.Â

Eastern returns home to take on Brescia on Tuesday. Tip is scheduled for 7 p.m.Â
