Colonels Dominate Kentucky Christian In 55-Point Victory

Box Score

RICHMOND, Ky. –
Double-digit scoring efforts by three Colonels paved the path for the women's basketball team in a 90-35 rout of Kentucky Christian on Wednesday at McBrayer Arena.

Bria Bass scored a season-high 19 points and pulled down 14 rebounds, notching her first double-double of the season and the third of her career. Abby Wright led the Colonels' scoring efforts with a season-high 22 points, while Shay Solomon contributed 10 points, nine rebounds and six steals.

The dominating performance was Eastern's first win by 50 or more points since defeating Ohio Valley University, 88-30, on Dec. 11, 2016.

KCU got on the board first, but the Colonels rattled off 10 unanswered points to jump to an eight-point advantage. Kentucky Christian ended the run with a lay-up, but a seven-point spurt allowed EKU to close out the first quarter with a 17-4 lead.

Eastern continued to control the game throughout the second quarter with a 31-point effort. Teri Goodlett knocked down a long trifecta as the buzzer and EKU took a 48-20 lead into the locker room at the half.

The Colonels outscored the Knights 60-14 in the paint and 31-5 on second-chance points. EKU's defense forced 31 turnovers on 18 steals, leading to 35-4 advantage in points off turnovers. Eastern led the game for 38:41 and led by as many as 58 points in the final minute of the fourth quarter.

Goodlett dished out a career-high 12 assists along with nine points. It was the first time a Colonel totaled 10 or more assists in a game since Mariah Massengill had 10 against Tennessee Tech on Feb. 25, 2017.

Lexi Campos scored her first points as a Colonel after drilling a three-pointer in the fourth quarter.

Kentucky Christian (3-13) was led by Sydney Foster's 13 points and six rebounds. Shelby Slone tacked on 10 points while Destiny Peck contributed seven.

The Colonels (1-7) play at home again on Sunday when George Mason visits McBrayer Arena.  Tip-off is scheduled for 2 p.m.
