Four Colonels Reach Double-Digits But Not Enough As They Fall At Home Against George Mason

RICHMOND, Ky. –
Eastern Kentucky University's women's basketball team had four players in double-digits but fell at home against George Mason University, 91-75, on Sunday at McBrayer Arena.
 
Heading into the fourth quarter, EKU trailed the Patriots 58-56. That is when GMU heated up and shot 92 percent (12-for-13) from the field in the final stanza to pull away from the Colonels.
 
Abby Wright led the way offensively for Eastern with a team-high 18 points, four rebounds and career-best five steals. Shay Solomon added 17 points and six rebounds. Bria Bass finished with 11 points and seven rebounds. Catie Kaifes was the fourth Colonel in double digits with 10. Mashayla Cecil pitched in a career-high nine points.
 
Nicole Cardano-Hillary led all players with 33 points, five rebounds and five assists for the Patriots (6-4).
 
It was a game of runs for most of the contest.
 
The Patriots ended the first quarter on a 10-2 run to take a 23-15 lead, after a basket and free throw by Marika Korpinen.
 
The Colonels trailed by 11, 28-17 midway through the second quarter when Wright sparked a 10-2 run. She scored seven points during the spurt and cut into the Patriot lead, 31-29, with 3:20 remaining before half.
 
George Mason was up 50-42 with 4:35 remaining in the third quarter, when Eastern Kentucky went on a 10-3 run capped off by a Cecil three-pointer with 1:51 remaining in the period to get within one, 53-52.
 
Eastern shot 42 percent from the field for the game and 44 percent from the three-point line.
 
George Mason shot 58 percent from the field and 42 percent from the three-point line. GMU outscored EKU 23-11 off turnovers.
 
Eastern returns to the court on Saturday when the Colonels travel to Charleston, West Virginia to take on the Mountaineers in a neutral site game. Tip is scheduled for 4 p.m.
