GAME ONE BOX | GAME TWO BOX
ROSEMONT, Ill. – The Eastern Kentucky University softball team made a late-game comeback against Loyola Chicago to split the day and close the Total Control Sports Invite at The Dome.
Â
Eastern Kentucky (3-1) went up 2-0 early in game two over the Ramblers after a triple to right center from
Emily Corbitt and a sacrifice fly from
Carly Robinson.
Â
Loyola Chicago (1-2) found an answer in the fourth inning plating four.
Â
Hannah Clark singled to shortstop in the sixth to put one on for sophomore pitcher
Mollie Paulick. The Centerville, Ohio native looked at three balls, fouled on off, then sent one over the wall for two RBIs to even the score at four.
Â
After
Samantha Reynoso reached on a fielder's choice
Destinee Lizzmore came up with a clutch two-bagger to give Eastern Kentucky a one run advantage, 5-4, that would prove insurmountable by the Ramblers.
"We played two very good teams today," Head Coach
Jane Worthington stated. "We are doing most things well, but need to be a little sharper on defense. It's harder to win when you give teams extra outs. We want our defense to start taking away would-be hits. Overall a good start to the season."Â
Â
Lizzmore,
Johnkyria Alston, Clark, Paulick, Mihalicz and Corbitt each collected hits on the day.
Â
Tori Peterson notched her first win in the circle as a Colonel after tossing 6.2 innings.
Â
The Colonels found themselves in a four-run hole after the third inning against DePaul University (3-0) in game one of the day and were unable to come out of it, falling 4-0.
Â
Eastern Kentucky will be back in action next weekend as they travel to Charleston, South Carolina to take part in the Charleston Southern Tournament.
