RICHMOND, Ky. – Nick Mayo scored a career-high 36 points, but Matthew Butler drained a three-pointer from the right corner with 1.4 seconds left to give UT Martin a 70-69 win over the men's basketball team on Thursday at McBrayer Arena.

UTM used a 15-5 run to go up seven, 62-57, with 7:21 remaining in the game.

That is when Mayo sparked the Colonel offense and capped off a 6-0 run with a free throw to cut the Skyhawk lead to 62-61 with 3:02 left in the contest.

Mayo had a game-high 36 points to go with five rebounds. He hit 13-of-21 from the field, including 7-of-10 from three-point range.

DeAndre Dishman gave EKU the lead, 69-67, with 10 seconds remaining in the game when he slammed one home off an assist by
JacQuess Hobbs. However, Butler had the answer for UT Martin at the other end.

Dujuanta Weaver had 12 points with three rebounds and three assists for the Colonels (8-18, 2-11 OVC). Dishman had eight points to go along with eight rebounds.

UT Martin (9-17, 4-9 OVC) was led by Delfincko Bogan who had 19 points. Mike Fofana had 15 points of his own to go along with six rebounds.

EKU shot 44 percent from the field with only 11 turnovers compared to the Skyhawks who shot 55 percent from the field with 15 turnovers.

UT Martin scored the first basket of the game, but the Colonels scored the next 11 points, including three 3-pointers by Mayo, to go up by nine. The Skyhawks whittled away at the lead and tied it, 18-18, on a free throw by Dominique Williams with 7:55 left in the first half.Â

Back-to-back three-pointers by
Dillon Avare stretched the Eastern lead back to seven, 33-26, with 3:48 left before intermission.Â
Dedric Boyd's trey with 16 seconds on the clock sent EKU to the locker room up five, 36-31.

Mayo scored 23 of Eastern Kentucky's 36 first half points. He made 8-of-10 from the field, including 5-of-6 from three point range, in the first 20 minutes of play.

The Colonels return to the court Saturday when they take on Morehead State at McBrayer Arena. Tip is scheduled for 7p.m.
