BEREA, Ky. – Shay Solomon had a team-high 12 points along with seven rebounds as Eastern Kentucky fell to Jacksonville State, 53-44, on Thursday night at the Seabury Center in Berea.  Â

EKU (2-16, 0-7 OVC) used a 12-2 run, starting with a basket by
Teri Goodlett, to pull within 39-37 with 6:40 remaining in the game but never got any closer.

JSU (9-9, 3-4 OVC) opened the third quarter on a 13-2 run after a jumper by Brittany Webster to give the Gamecocks a 37-25 lead with 2:44 remaining in the third quarter.

The two teams traded baskets for most of the first quarter and went into the second stanza tied 10-10. Goodlett knocked down a three with 5:49 left in the first half to give EKU the 21-17 lead. Â

Bria Bass pitched in 11 points and six rebounds.
Catie Kaifes had four points, 12 rebounds, three assists and a career-high four blocks.

The Gamecocks were led by Yamina Johnson who had a game-high 15 points and three rebounds. Taylor Hawks had 11 points, six assists, three steals and three assists. Chloe Long pitched in 10 points of her own. Â

Eastern shot 36 percent from the field. Jacksonville State shot 34 percent. The Colonels had 16 turnovers while the Gamecocks had 14.

The Colonels return to the court Saturday at Georgetown College, when they take on Tennessee Tech. Tip-off is scheduled for 4:30 p.m.
