Soccer Goes on the Road and Earns Draw at Morehead State

Box Score

MOREHEAD, Ky.
– The Eastern Kentucky University soccer team drew with in-state rival Morehead State, 0-0, on Sunday afternoon.

It was EKU's second consecutive shutout, and it gives the Colonels (4-11-2, 2-5-2, OVC) another valuable point in the standings as they battle for a spot in the Ohio Valley Conference Tournament.

Morehead State's Nicole Fiantaco was shown a straight red card in the first half, so EKU was a player up for the final 79 minutes of action.

Eastern attempted 10 shots on the day – five on frame – but could not capitalize on the advantage.

"Credit to Morehead State for bunkering in after the red car and making themselves hard to beat," head coach Matt Cosinuke said. "We were on the front foot the entire game and put our attacking players in positions to be dangerous for 110 minutes."

Freshman Audrey Anderson paced the Colonels offensively, firing three shots, two of which were on goal.

Sophomore goalkeeper Zoe Aguirre matched her season high with eight saves to earn her second straight clean sheet (and third of the season).

The Colonels will close out the regular season with a crucial game at SIUE on Thursday night, October 24, at 8 p.m. ET.

"The season comes down to our next game. Plain and simple," Cosinuke added. "We need our seniors to lead us, but this will be an entire team effort to get the result we need."
