RICHMOND, Ky. – Catie Kaifes went for 15 points, five assists and two blocks but the women's basketball team fell, 76-63, to Murray State Thursday night in Richmond.

EKU (2-22, 0-13 OVC) took a 61-60, lead with 8:56 remaining in the game after a basket by
Shay Solomon to give the Colonels their first lead of the game.

However, Murray State (10-14, 6-7 OVC) scored eight unanswered, capped by a three-pointer from Lex Mayes, to take a 68-61 lead with 7:04 left in regulation. MSU never trailed again.

The Racers got off to a quick start taking a 7-2 advantage early in the game after a pair of free throws by Brianna Cane. EKU answered back cutting the lead to 13-12 after a jumper by Kaifes with 3:37 remaining in the first quarter.

The Colonels went into the locker room trailing 41-29.

Eastern answered the call in the third quarter using a 6-0 run after a
Mashayla Cecil three-pointer to cut the Racer lead to 52-46 with 3:37 remaining in the period.

Madison Pierce lay-up with nine seconds left in the quarter made the score 60-57 in favor of Murray State after three quarters. Â Eastern out-scored the Racers 28-19 in the third.

Murray State used a big fourth quarter, out-scoring EKU 16-6 to pull away in the last stanza.

Solomon had 12 points, nine rebounds and four assists.
Bria Bass went for 12 points and five rebounds.
Paige Murphy pitched in 12 points as well.

Murray State was led by Evelyn Adebayo who posted a game-high 23 points and 13 rebounds. Â Macey Turley went for 14 points, five rebounds and six assists. Janika Griffith-Wall pitched in 14 points of her own

EKU shot 48 percent from the field and MSU shot 44 percent. Â The Racers out-scored EKU 18-2 in second chance points.

Eastern returns to the court Saturday at Morehead to take on in-state rival Morehead State. Tip-off is scheduled for 2:05 p.m.
