Women's Basketball Topped By First Place Belmont

RICHMOND, Ky. –
 The Eastern Kentucky women's basketball fell to Belmont, 87-52, Thursday at McBrayer Arena.
 
Ellie Harmeyer set the tempo early, dropping eight points to propel the Bruins to a 14-2 lead by the midway point of the first quarter. EKU's Paige Murphy drew a foul on a jumper with 2:28 left in the second and nailed the free throw for an old-fashioned three-point play to cut the lead to 37-19. Belmont took a 42-23 lead into the locker room.
 
The Bruins (17-5, 10-1 OVC) were led by Harmeyer's game-high 17 points. Maura Muensterman, Conley Chinn, and Darby Maggard all scored in double-digits, contributing 15, 13, and 12 points respectively.
 
Bria Bass and Teri Goodlett racked up 12 points apiece, while Murphy added eight points.  Bass finished with a team-best seven rebounds.
 
Belmont made 51 percent of its shots from the field, including 10 three-pointers.  Eastern Kentucky shot 33 percent on the night.
 
The Colonels (2-20, 0-11 OVC) will be back in action on Saturday against Tennessee State University. Tip is scheduled for 4:30 p.m.
