Mayo Blog, Vol. 3: First Pre-Draft Workout

5/9/2019 5:41:00 PM

This last week and a half I have been very busy; I'm glad I finally have some time to sit down and write to you guys about how things have been!

I have been going through my regular workout routines here in Vegas. They have been going well and I feel like I am getting better every day.

I had the opportunity to fly back to Richmond two weekends ago to attend Brooke's last sorority formal. It was supposed to be a quick trip, but it turned out to be even quicker due to my luck with flights. I was supposed to fly out of Vegas and land in Cincinnati around 11 p.m. so I would get to Richmond just after midnight. Well, of course my flight got delayed four hours and I didn't land until 3 a.m. I'm glad Lachlan Anderson is a real one and still picked me up. We got into Richmond at 5:00 in the morning.

After a quick five hours of sleep I was able to get up and go golfing with some of the boys, Lachlan, Bargo, and Cam. We didn't hit them too well, but we had a fun time and I was glad I got the chance to do that with my boys. After playing some golf it was time to get ready for Brooke's formal, which was a lot of fun. Like I said, this was just a weekend trip so the next day Brooke took me to the Cincinnati airport, where I caught a flight back to Vegas. That Monday, after I finished my first workout of the day, I got a really exciting call. My agent called me and informed me of my first pre-draft workout that I'd have in a week with the Los Angeles Lakers.

I spent all last week preparing myself for this Lakers workout. I was excited and eager for it. On Monday, I flew out to LA where I was picked up and brought to the hotel for my workout the next morning. Being so anxious and ready for the workout, I didn't necessarily get the best night of sleep, but once I was up I was ready to go. There were five other players entering the draft that worked out with me. The Lakers' facilities were top-notch and the workout went pretty well. For me, it was a great first experience and I will be having several more workouts with other teams over the next month. As soon as I got done with the workout, I flew out to Richmond to be here with friends and family for my graduation this Friday. I am looking forward to seeing everyone and being able to get my degree!
