EKU Basketball Welcomes In Jacksonville State On Saturday

RICHMOND, Ky. – The Eastern Kentucky University basketball teams welcome Jacksonville State to McBrayer Arena on Saturday.

The OVC doubleheader gets underway with the women's game at 1:30 p.m. ET, followed by the men's game at 4:00 p.m. ET.
 
Both games will stream live on ESPN+.

INSIDE THE SERIES
- Eastern leads the all-time series between the two teams, 20-14.
 
- JSU has won the last two meetings in the series.
 
THE COLONELS
-  Eastern is 6-6 after falling to Tennessee Tech in its conference opener, 60-42, on Thursday.
 
-  De'Arya Davis led the way posting a team-high nine points to go with three rebounds on the night.  
 
-  Bria Bass chipped in seven points and seven rebounds on the night.   
 
-  The Colonels grabbed 16 offensive rebounds on the night. Freshman Anysa Jordan posted seven offensive boards.   
 
-  Bass ranks 21st in the conference in scoring.
 
-  The Colonels rank fourth in the conference in field goal percentage defense.
 
SCOUTING THE OPPONENT
-  Jacksonville State comes into the weekend at 4-8, after falling on the road at Morehead State on Thursday.
 
-  Taylor Hawks led the way for the Gamecocks posting a game-high 14 points against Morehead State.  
 
-  Yamia Johnson chipped in 10 points and three rebounds off the bench.
 
-  The Gamecocks rank fourth in the OVC in turnover margin.    
 
-  Destiney Elliott ranks 10th in the conference in scoring.

WHAT TO KNOW
 
EKU (4-10, 1-0 OVC) opened OVC play with a convincing 74-59 win over Tennessee Tech on Thursday night at McBrayer.
 
Sophomore Tre King led a balanced EKU scoring effort with 15 points. He added four rebounds, two steals and two blocks.
 
The Colonels connected on 12-of-27 three-pointers vs. Tennessee Tech (44%), their best three-point shooting percentage of the season. It was also the most three-pointers they have hit against a Division-I opponent this season.
 
Junior Russhard Cruickshank came off the bench and shot 3-of-5 from deep vs. Tennessee Tech, finishing with 13 points. Cruickshank now ranks 13th in the OVC in three-point field goal percentage (37.5%).
 
Junior JacQuess Hobbs finished with a season-best eight assists and zero turnovers in Thursday's win over Tennessee Tech. Hobbs now ranks fourth in the OVC in assist-turnover ratio (2.4).
 
Senior Ty Taylor will be playing in his 100th collegiate game on Saturday. Taylor previously played at Wichita State (2015-16) and UNC Wilmington (2017-19).
 
 
SCOUTING THE OPPONENT
 
Jacksonville State (6-8, 1-0 OVC) opened conference play with a 76-72 road win at Morehead State on Thursday.
 
De'Torrion Ware and Jacara Cross average 11.8 and 11.1 points-per-game, respectively, to lead the Gamecocks.
 
This is the 33rd all-time meeting between EKU and Jacksonville State. Eastern leads the series, 21-11.
 
The Colonels and Gamecocks split last season's matchups. EKU defeated JSU, 88-70, in Berea on Jan. 24. Jacksonville State outlasted Eastern, 104-101, in double overtime in Jacksonville on Feb. 23.
