Basketball Teams Travel to Rival Morehead State on Thursday

RICHMOND, Ky. – The Eastern Kentucky University men's and women's basketball teams will travel to rival Morehead State for a Thursday night doubleheader at Johnson Arena.

The women tip at 5 p.m., followed by the men at 7 p.m.

Both games will stream live on ESPN+.

INSIDE THE SERIES
- Eastern leads the all-times series between the two teams, 51-46.
 
- This will be the first meeting between the two teams this year.  
 
THE COLONELS
-  Eastern is 9-14 (3-9 OVC) after knocking off SIU Edwardsville, 68-38, Saturday in Edwardsville.
 
-  Teri Goodlett led the way for the Colonels posting a game-high 20 points and seven assists in the win.
 
-  Goodlett ranks second in conference play with 4.6 assists per game
 
-  I'Liyah Green was named Ohio Valley Conference Newcomer of the Week for the third time this year. The junior averaged 10.5 points per game and six rebounds on 53 percent shooting.
 
-  The Colonels rank third in the OVC in field goal percentage defense.
 
SCOUTING THE OPPONENT
-  Morehead State comes into the contest at 9-15 (5-7 OVC), after falling to Eastern Illinois, 67-62, in overtime on Saturday.
 
-  Ariel Kirkwood led the way for the Eagles posting a team-best 15 points and nine rebounds.
 
-  The Eagles held Eastern Illinois scoreless in the second quarter on Saturday.
 
-  Morehead State ranks fifth in the country in blocks per game.
 
-  Jazzmyn Elston ranks 12th in conference play in scoring.

WHAT TO KNOW
 
EKU (12-13, 9-3 OVC) split last weekend on the road, winning at Eastern Illinois on Thursday before falling at SIUE on Saturday.
 
Freshman Michael Moreno finished with a double-double of 18 points and 11 rebounds at SIUE. The 18 points are a new career high for Moreno.
 
Moreno was voted the OVC Freshman of the Week on Monday. He averaged 17.5 points and 9.0 rebounds-per-game for the Colonels last week. He shot 69 percent from the field, 56 percent from three-point range and 80 percent from the stripe over the week.
 
EKU turned SIUE over 26 times on Saturday. The Colonels now rank 5th nationally in turnovers forced-per-game (19), 6th nationally in steals-per-game (9.7) and 8th nationally in turnover margin (+5).
 
Jomaru Brown matched his season high with six assists at SIUE on Saturday.
 
Ty Taylor (961) and Brown (908) are both within striking distance of reaching 1,000 career points this season.
 
 
SCOUTING THE OPPONENT
 
Morehead State (12-13, 6-6 OVC) also split on the road last weekend, defeating SIUE on Thursday before falling at Eastern Illinois on Saturday.
 
Jordan Walker paces the Eagles at 13.4 points-per-game.
 
This is the 193rd all-time meeting between EKU and Morehead State. EKU leads the series, 109-83; however, the Eagles have won three straight over the Colonels.
 
EKU's last win in Morehead came all the way back on January 31, 2015.
