EKU Softball Travels To North Carolina For The Seahawk Softball Classic

RICHMOND, Ky. –
 The Eastern Kentucky University softball team travels to Wilmington, North Carolina to play in the Seahawk Softball Classic this weekend.
 
The Colonels will play five games over the weekend. EKU takes on George Washington at 10 a.m. Friday; followed by host UNC Wilmington at 12:30 p.m. Eastern squares off against George Washington again Saturday at 3 p.m. followed by Brown at 5:30 p.m. They wrap up their weekend with Brown University on Sunday at 10 a.m.
 
Inside the Series'                                                                                                                   
-This will be the first ever meeting between the Colonels and George Washington. The Colonials come into the weekend at 1-9 after going 1-4 at the Pirate Clash. Priscilla Martinez leads the Colonials at the plate with a team-high .318 batting average with one double, one home run and four RBIs.
 
-The Colonels' second opponent on the weekend is host UNC Wilmington. The Colonels hold a 3-1 all-time record against the Seahawks. UNCW comes into the weekend at 1-8 on the year. The Seahawks are led by Janel Gamache with a team-best .438 batting average, two doubles, two home runs and seven RBIs.
 
-Eastern Kentucky and Brown have never met on the diamond. The Bears have not played this year but return Emily Waters in the circle. Waters was 5-12 last year with a 4.54 ERA.   
 
 
What EKU Brings:
-Eastern comes into the weekend at 7-2, after going 4-1 at the Winthrop Tournament.  
 
-Sammi Miller leads the way at the plate with a team-best .444 batting average, two doubles, four RBIs and four stolen bases.
 
-Mollie Paulick was named Ohio Valley Conference Pitcher of the Week after going 3-0 in the circle with a 1.67 ERA and two complete games. The senior had 26 strikeouts over 21 innings.
 
-Freshmen Ariyana Miranda, Vianna Barron and Isabella Gonzalez have made an immediate impact at the plate combining for six home runs, 15 RBIs and 20 hits on the year.  
 
-Seven different Colonels have hit a home run this year.  
 
-EKU ranks second in the country in home runs per game averaging two home runs a game.
