EKU Women's Basketball Falls To Tennessee State At Home On Thursday Night

RICHMOND, Ky. –
Eastern Kentucky University's women's basketball team fell to Tennessee State University, 67-64, Thursday night in Richmond.
 
Tennessee State (4-21, 2-13 OVC) used a 16-5 run to open the fourth quarter and took a 65-59 lead after a Jazmine Young layup with 1:20 remaining in the game.
 
Eastern Kentucky (10-16, 4-11 OVC) did not go down without a fight. A baseline jumper from I'Liyah Green and free throws by Qay Stanton and Bria Bass cut the Tigers lead to 66-64 with 19.9 seconds remaining in regulation. TSU made one-of-two free throws to take a 67-64 lead with 14 seconds remaining in the game. Stanton got a good look from three to tie it up but could not get it to go in.
 
Eastern Kentucky opened the game on an 11-3 run after a layup by Samari Mowbray. After a pair of free throws by Bria Bass, the Colonels took a 17-13 lead after 10 minutes.
 
Tennessee State started the second quarter on a 7-3 run, and a Jaden Wrightsell layup tied the game at 20-20 with 7:58 remaining in the first half. EKU stretched its lead to four late in the half, but an Adreana Wrister three pointer with 11 seconds left cut the Eastern lead to 30-29 at the break.
 
The third quarter was a quarter of runs and the two teams traded punches until the Colonels took a 52-49 at the end of three.
 
Teri Goodlett led the way for the Colonels with 19 points and six rebounds. Bass chipped in 13 points and nine rebounds off the bench.
 
Young led all scorers with 23 points.
 
EKU will take on Belmont University at home on Saturday. Tip-off is scheduled for 4:30 p.m.
