EKU Soccer Knocks Off Lipscomb To Move Into First Place Of Western Division

RICHMOND, Ky. –
 The Eastern Kentucky University soccer team knocked off Lipscomb, 2-1, on Sunday afternoon in Richmond to move into first place of the west.
 
Lipscomb (9-4-1, 4-2 ASUN) got on the board first in the 11th minute.
 
Emauela Schurch played a ball into Shelby Craft who fired a shot off the goalkeeper's hands into the goal to take an early 1-0 lead.
 
The Colonels got the equalizer in the 33rd minute.
 
Gretta Gunn played a cross into the box and Lucy Ream found the back of the net with her right foot to tie the match at 1-1.
 
The score held true, and the two teams went into the break tied.
 
EKU (7-7, 3-3 ASUN) kept the pressure on the Bisons in the second half.
 
After a couple of corner kick opportunities for the Colonels, they finally capitalized.
 
Gunn played a corner kick into the box and Mackenzie Burdick connected on the header for the game winning goal to give the Colonels a 2-1 advantage over Lipscomb.
 
Lipscomb outshot EKU 19-11 on the contest. The Bisons had 11 shots on goal compared to the Colonels four. Eastern Kentucky had seven corner kicks on the match.
 
Sabrina Hinz was phenomenal in goal with a season-best eight saves.
 
EKU hits the road next weekend for a pair of matches. The Colonels take on Central Arkansas on Thursday night at 8 p.m.
