CONWAY, Ark. – The Eastern Kentucky University soccer team fell on the road to Central Arkansas, 2-1, on Thursday night in a battle between the top two teams in the west.

UCA (8-7, 5-2 ASUN) struck early in the first half taking the 1-0 lead in the 7th minute after Laurel Landry found the back of the net off the assist from Emma Hawkins.

Hawkins decided to do it herself four minutes later sliding one past the EKU goalkeeper to take a 2-0 lead in the 11th minute.

The Colonels (7-8, 3-4 ASUN) settled in after that and put a lot of pressure on Central Arkansas.

Gretta Gunn got the Colonels on the board in the 36th minute with her third goal of the season to cut the UCA lead to 2-1 at the break.

Baylee Lanter almost tied the match up in the 69th minute when her shot hit off the crossbar to keep the match at, 2-1.

Eastern Kentucky had Central Arkansas on its heels during the second half but could not find the equalizer.

EKU outshot UCA 11-5 on the contest. The Colonels had six shots on goal compared to UCA's four. Eastern Kentucky had five corner kicks on the match.

Eastern Kentucky held Central Arkansas to one shot the entire second half.

EKU travels to Jacksonville State on Sunday for its final road match of the regular season. The match starts at 2 p.m.
