EKU Soccer Knocks Off Jacksonville State To Secure Spot In ASUN Tournament

JACKSONVILLE, Ala. –
 The Eastern Kentucky University soccer team knocked off Jacksonville State, 2-0, on the road Sunday afternoon to secure a spot in the ASUN tournament.
 
EKU (8-8, 4-4 ASUN) put a lot of early pressure early on the Gamecocks and took advantage in the 9th minute.
 
Michaela Iacono secured the ball around midfield turned and played a great through ball past the backline of JSU to Audrey Anderson who dribbled around the goalkeeper and found the back of the net to give the Colonels an early 1-0 lead.
 
The Colonels had seven shots in the first half with three on goal.
 
EKU went into the half leading, 1-0.
 
Eastern Kentucky extended the lead early in the second half.
 
Lucy Ream played a ball into the middle of the field finding Nerea de Diego who connected for her third goal of the season in the 47th minute to give the Colonels a 2-0 lead over JSU.
 
EKU outshot JSU 14-3 on the contest. The Colonels had seven shots on goal compared to JSU's two. Eastern Kentucky had seven corner kicks on the match.
 
Eastern Kentucky held  Jacksonville State to one corner kick on the match.
 
Sabrina Hinz pitched her third shutout of the season and made two saves.
 
EKU wraps up the regular season at home next Saturday against in-state rival Bellarmine University. The match starts at 1 p.m.
