EKU Soccer Knocks Off Liberty With Goal In The 87th Minute

RICHMOND, Ky. – 
The Eastern Kentucky University soccer team advanced to the ASUN Conference Tournament semifinals with a 1-0 win over Liberty University on Friday night in Nashville.
 
Gretta Gunn played a ball to Nerea de Diego who played a great through ball to Maddy Lemery who found the back of the net in the 87th minute for the game winning goal.  
 
EKU (9-9) was the aggressor in the first half and out-shot the Flames, 7-5, with each team having two shots on goal.
 
Liberty (11-7-1) stepped up the pressure to start the second half and had 11 shots in the half but could never find the back of the net.
 
Liberty out-shot the Colonels 16-13 on the contest. The Flames had six shots on goal compared to the Colonels three.
 
Carly Dean was spectacular in goal making six saves in her first start as a Colonel.
 
Eastern Kentucky returns to the pitch on Sunday against the host Lipscomb at 2 p.m. eastern time.
