EKU Soccer Cruises Past North Alabama For Big ASUN Victory

Box Score

RICHMOND, Ky. –
The Eastern Kentucky University soccer team cruised past the University of North Alabama, 3-0, on Thursday afternoon in Richmond.

The Colonels (6-7, 2-3 ASUN) put a lot of pressure on the Lions from the opening kick and never backed off which helped lead to an early goal.

Lucy Ream played in a corner kick and after the UNA defender cleared the ball out, Kylie Fitzgerald fired a rocket with her left foot into the back of the net to give the Colonels the early 1-0 lead in the 13th minute.

EKU kept the pressure on but could not find the back of the net again in the first half and went into the break leading.

The Colonels struck again in the 78th minute.

Ream played a corner into the box to Audrey Anderson who played one touch and half bicycled the shot past the goalkeeper for her team-best fourth goal of the season to give EKU the 2-0 advantage.

Gretta Gunn gave the Colonels a commanding 3-0 lead in the 83rd minute after stealing the ball from the UNA defender in the box and sliding it past the goalkeeper in the bottom right of the goal.

EKU outshot UNA 17-16 on the contest. The Colonels had 11 shots on goal compared to North Alabama's six. Eastern Kentucky had nine corner kicks on the match.

Sabrina Hinz pitched her second shut-out in her first three starts with six saves.

EKU wraps up its four-game homestand on Sunday against Lipscomb. The match starts at 1 p.m.
